Lazarus: Watanabe’s High-Octane Sci-Fi Chase with a Dash of Parkour!

Imagine this: It's 2052, and humanity's living the dream thanks to Hapna—a miracle drug that eliminates pain and disease in an instant. But wait! Three years down the road, Dr. Skinner, who created it, throws a spanner in the works: "Oops, everybody's gonna croak in 30 days unless I fix it." Enter chaos and join us for Lazarus, the anime that's about to turn everything topsy-turvy!

The Mastermind : Shinichirō If you’ve binge-watched Cowboy Bebop or jammed out to Samurai Champloo, you already know Watanabe’s a legend. Now, he's returning in collaboration with MAPPA (think Jujutsu Kaisen) and Sola Entertainment. He's directing—yep, and even penning himself, for goodness' sake accompanying industry legends such as Dai Sato.

The Story: A Ticking Clock Hapna's an inital global phenomenon right until Skinner disappears, only to reappear again with the worst news possible: it's a killing trap. Now, the Lazarus team has 30 days to track him down and compel a cure. It's a Mission: Impossible in sci-fi mode with added flips and twists!

Meet the Lazarus Unit Axel Gilberto: King of parkour from Brazil who's been out of jail more than you've lost your key. Doug Hadine: Genius Nigerian who keeps everything in line. Christine (Chris): Russian sniper with a smile as bright as sunshine. Leland: Genius hacker from Canada who's as silent as a ninja. Eleina: Hong Kong's teenage hacking phenomenon, better known as “Mad Screamer.” The two work together to report to Hersch, boss lady in charge. They're essentially an animated A-Team! Visuals: A Feast for the Eyes MAPPA's animation is chef's kiss retro 90s cool fused with sleek modern moves. Cyberspace's gritty, not glossy, and the fight choreo? Handled by Chad Stahelski (John Wick). Imagine jaw-dropping battles in cartoonland.

The Music: A Symphony of Sounds The music game of Watanabe is tight. A mix of jazz by Kamasi Washington, relaxing beats by Bonobo, psychedelic vibes by Floating Points, and a rock-out by The Boo Radleys. It’s an ear party you won't want to exit!

Reception: Mostly Love, Some Meh

The critics are feeling it awesome graphics, deadly fight scenes, and a story to boot. Some have described it as slow-burning, but Anime News Network gave it an "A". Watanabe's complexity transfers through despite all the explosions.
