Ghost of Yōtei Releasing October 2025

If you're a fan of samurai games, it’s time to get excited—Ghost of Yotei is officially coming to PlayStation 5 this October. Sucker Punch Productions just dropped a stunning new trailer for the long-awaited sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, and it looks like it’s raising the bar in every way.

The new trailer, full of cinematic shots, intense combat, and breathtaking landscapes, gives us our best look yet at this next chapter. It’s been nearly a year since Sony first teased the game during State of Play in September 2024 with just a vague “2025” release window. Now, the wait is over—we have a date. And yes, it's launching in the same quarter as GTA 6. It’s going to be a wild end to the year.

A New Story, A New Hero

Set three centuries after Jin Sakai’s tale, Ghost of Yotei introduces a new protagonist: Atsu. She's on a mission for revenge, armed with a list of six names each belonging to a member of the Yōtei Six, a gang of outlaws who destroyed her home and took her family. They thought they finished the job. They were wrong.

What’s exciting is that the game gives you the freedom to choose which target to go after first, letting you carve your own path through the story. Along the way, you can take on side bounties, train with a swordmaster, or explore the world with Atsu’s loyal wolf companion. That’s right this time, the adorable fox from Tsushima has some fierce competition.

Familiar Feel, Gorgeous New Setting

The world of Ghost of Yotei looks absolutely stunning. Set in the Hokkaido region, the environments range from snow-covered mountains to rich autumn forests. Every frame in the trailer looks like it could be a painting. Sucker Punch has clearly poured a lot into making the world feel alive, from the subtle movement of wind through trees to the small details in every scene.

Combat seems to build on everything fans loved about the original, with slick new animations, weapons, and moves that keep battles fast, fluid, and brutal. There are also a few new mechanics hinted at in the trailer, though the studio’s keeping those under wraps for now.

No Need to Play the First Game

If you haven't played Ghost of Tsushima, you don’t have to worry. Ghost of Yotei has a brand new narrative, making it a great entry point for new players. And for returning fans, it’s a chance to dive back into a beautifully crafted open-world adventure with a fresh twist.

Editions and Extras

Sony has confirmed pricing, too. The Standard Edition will cost $70, while the Digital Deluxe Edition will be $80. That extra $10 gets you some bonus content, like a unique armor set, a special horse color and saddle, a combat Charm, and a gold-themed sword kit.

Looking Ahead

Ghost of Yotei is launching first on PS5, with a potential PC release coming later—possibly in 2026 or even early 2027. For now, it’s all about delivering a top-tier samurai experience for console players.

So whether you’re a longtime fan or totally new to the series, this one’s shaping up to be something special. Mark your calendars for October 2 and get ready to explore Hokkaido, hunt down the Yōtei Six, and experience a new kind of samurai story.
